There are many people talking about electric scooters these days. They offer a great way to zip around a larger city, which is why many large cities, including ones in Ohio, have rentals that you can use if you like. However, there is also a lot of concern about these ex-scooters because of some serious accidents involving them.
Forbes explains that injuries and accidents are commonplace with the use of e-scooters. Sometimes it is the user’s fault for not wearing safety gear or obeying the law when riding the scooter. Other times, though, it is due to a lack of education about how to ride safely or because a driver of a vehicle is not paying attention.
Part of the problem is a lack of regulation. Many cities where e-scooter use is increasing do not have regulations in place to ensure safety and to allow the scooters to co-exist nicely with pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
Another issue is that roadways and sidewalks are not made to suit the e-scooters. A small pebble, dip or crack can spell disaster if you hit it while riding a scooter. It is too easy to fly off and suffer serious injuries.
Furthermore, many accidents happen to people who fail to wear a helmet. There are no laws, though, making helmet use mandatory. In fact, safety gear of any kind is not a requirement in many places to even rent a scooter. Although, many rental places do offer safety gear and recommend wearing it.
